Smoke shop and vape retail is a fast-moving vertical — stores open, close, and change ownership more often than most retail categories. That makes list freshness the single biggest factor in whether a "leads list" is actually useful.
A list built from a public business directory six months ago will have a meaningfully higher bounce/disconnect rate than one sourced closer to today. Before you buy or use any smoke shop list, ask how recently it was verified — not just when it was originally compiled.
At minimum: business name, a phone number or email that's been checked (not just scraped), city/state, and ideally an owner or manager name rather than a generic store line. Anything less and you're doing the qualification work yourself before you can even start outreach.
Tobacco and vape-adjacent outreach gets extra scrutiny. Make sure whatever list you use has been checked against the National DNC registry, and that any email campaign you run includes a working unsubscribe link — not just a footer that says "unsubscribe" with no real mechanism behind it.
MakeLeads keeps its smoke shop category current and checks every record for a working phone and/or email before it goes live.
